The Three Types of Work
Everything in Bonjour is one of these three things
Asks
Questions for the team. Use Asks when you need input, feedback, or decisions from others.
Example:
"Should we use PostgreSQL or MySQL for the new feature?"
✓ Team can vote on Asks
✓ Discussion happens in comments
✓ Can be converted to a Task once decided
Tasks
Commitments to get work done. Tasks are promises YOU make—no one assigns them to you.
Example:
"Build the user export feature"
✓ You pull Tasks when you're ready
✓ Live in Today, Later, or Someday
✓ Expire if they sit too long in Later
Notes
Updates, decisions, and thinking. Like a team diary. Over time, Notes create deep context.
Example:
"Shipped the export feature. Went with CSV format because it's universally compatible. Next up: PDF support."
✓ Capture what you did and why
✓ AI learns from Notes to answer questions
✓ Build institutional knowledge
The Three Buckets
Today. Later. Someday. That's your framework.
Today
Work that matters right now. This is your focus. Keep it small.
Tip:
If you have more than 3-5 tasks in Today, you're doing it wrong. Move things to Later.
Later
Important but not urgent. This is your backlog, but it's not forever.
Tip:
Work expires from Later after 30 days. If it didn't get done, it wasn't important.
Someday
Ideas and nice-to-haves. Things you might do, but no commitment.
Tip:
Someday is your idea parking lot. Don't feel guilty—most things here will never get done.
How Teams Work Together
Democracy over dictatorship. Pull over push.
Voting on Priority
The team votes on Asks to show what matters. Everyone's voice counts equally.
- • Upvote Asks you think are important
- • Votes help surface what the team values
- • No top-down mandates on priority
Pulling Work
You choose what Tasks to commit to. No one assigns work to you.
- • Browse the feed to see what needs doing
- • Pull a Task when you're ready
- • Work you choose is work you own
The Shared Feed
Everyone sees the same timeline. No more "I didn't know about that."
- • All Asks, Tasks, and Notes in one place
- • Real-time updates for the whole team
- • No scattered information
Work Expiration
Tasks that sit too long disappear. This isn't failure—it's clarity.
- • Later tasks expire after 30 days
- • If it mattered, you would have done it
- • No guilt graveyard backlog
AI as a Sprinkle
Your team's knowledge is the engine. AI just helps you find it.
What AI Can Do
Answer questions instantly
"Why did we choose PostgreSQL?"
Find context
"What decisions were made about the API?"
Summarize history
"Catch me up on the mobile redesign"
How It Works
- 1. AI reads your team's entire feed—all Asks, Tasks, and Notes
- 2. You ask a question in natural language
- 3. AI surfaces the relevant context from your history
- 4. No interrupting teammates. No digging through Slack.
Important: AI only sees your team's data. Not other teams, not other companies. Your context stays private.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is this different from Jira/Linear/Asana?
Those tools give you an empty box and say "figure it out." Bonjour gives you a framework: Asks, Tasks, Notes. Today, Later, Someday. No configuration needed. Just start working.
What if I need more than three buckets?
You don't. The constraint is the feature. If you have 10 different states, you're not organizing work—you're creating overhead. Today, Later, Someday is enough.
Can I assign tasks to people?
No. People pull work when they're ready. Assignments create resentment. Pulling creates ownership.
What happens to work that expires?
It's gone. If it didn't get done in 30 days, it wasn't important. Move on. Your backlog isn't a guilt graveyard.
Is there a mobile app?
The web app works great on mobile. A native app is on the roadmap, but the responsive web version is designed for on-the-go use.
How much does AI cost?
AI pricing is variable based on complexity. $10 will go a long way. You only pay for what you use.
